Co-editor Richard Westra has a new article available from JCA. Titled “In the Tracks of Imperialism” (DOI: 10.1080/00472336.2015.1034454), the article examines the adequacy of the concept of imperialism for Marxism.
Noting that the concept of imperialism is subject to considerable conceptual elasticity, Westra contends that a proper understanding of the concept derives from Marxian economic analysis of capitalism, not from oblique notions of asymmetric power of states within the international order.
Westra’s analysis looks at Marx, Lenin, Kautsky, Hilferding and Kozo Ono, amongst other theorists.
