Migrant workersIn a new book review, JCA author Tu Phuong Nguyen writes about a new book by Pun Ngai titled Migrant Labor in China: Post-Socialist Transformations (DOI: 10.1080/00472336.2016.1197960).

Published by Polity Press, Migrant Labor in China: Post-Socialist Transformations is, according to the reviewer, one that again fascinate readers in a work that “displays the vigour and passion of an activist scholar,” based on solid  ethnographic fieldwork with factory workers.

“Overall,” the reviewer concludes, “this book is an enjoyable and enlightening read. It gives an intricate account and provides impassioned analysis of the contradictions surrounding the work and lives of migrant workers in China’s ‘miracle growth’.”
