Special economic zones

TademJCA author Eduardo Climaco Tadem has an op-ed at Rappler. Ed is in Asian Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman and President of the Freedom from Debt Coalition.

His op-ed, “The pitfalls of Special Economic Zones,” assesses the proliferation of special economic zones (SEZ) in the Philippines in the context of similar expansions in other parts of the region and the resulting disenfranchisement of farmers.

The economic and social costs outweigh the benefits that host governments and foreign investors claim in touting for SEZs.
