The Web of Science has released its impact factors for listed journals for 2018 and the Journal of Contemporary Asia is now at 2.030. This IF is the highest JCA has achieved.
In 2018, the reports list JCA as ranked 7th in the Area Studies category among 74 ranked journals.
Different people have quite divergent views on the utility of such rankings. Whatever one’s views, there is little doubt that IFs and the rankings do have consequences for journals, including in matters like submissions. Some jurisdictions also direct scholars to consider IFs when they publish.
